The STOP Technique
S – STOP
Stop whatever you are doing. Take a step back and a deep breath. Disengage from the situation. Take a break and put everything off for just a few minutes to reset how you are feeling.
T- TAKE
A few deep breathes. And another set of three deep breathes. Give yourself 30 seconds of just focusing on your breathe. Feel the breath moving through your body.
O- OBSERVE
Notice your thoughts and how your body is feeling in this moment. Name the emotions you are feeling and consider why you are feeling that way with no judgement.
P- PROCEED
Move forward in an intentional way that honors your needs and feelings. What will really make you feel better or help you cope. Remember that it is okay to ask a trusted friend or family member or community member or Elder for words of advice. You are not alone.
